In 1957, Kuhlman Electric supported Jay G. Gates as he established the Jay G. Gates Company, a representative firm to serve the electric utility market. Jay was a Regional Sales Manager with Kuhlman and represented them in southern Ohio and Kentucky. John Commons joined the firm in 1972 and worked under Jay for 11 years before purchasing the company in 1983. In May, 1989, the Jay G. Gates Company changed its name to ELUS Company. In 2013 ELUS Company became an ESOP, an employee owned company.
Letter from our President
ELUS Company is now in our 7th decade operating as an electrical utility sales representative. In that time we have grown to know our business very well. While maintaining a steady stream of business with our utility customers, we continually strive to nurture and build these relationships to ensure a strong foundation for our future.
I trust that the strategic approach ELUS has taken over the last few years will prove effective for all of our partner principals. Our experienced outside sales team is appropriately sized to cover all of our territory. In fact, I would argue we have more feet on the street than any other utility sales entity in The Great Lakes region. Our inside sales support team complements our outside team with timely and knowledgeable assistance and they strive to produce a great customer experience. Lastly, our team is outfitted with up to date technology and transportation necessary to communicate effectively and efficiently.
Our territory currently covers Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Michigan, Ohio, Southern Illinois and Western Pennsylvania. In 2018 we expanded our territory to include Tennessee, bringing our coverage up to 7+ states as well as all other states served by AEP and First Energy.
Our goal for our relationship with the manufacturers we represent is to expand our success with the electric utilities groups. We believe that we have the team assembled to effectively and successfully cover our territory. ELUS Company will continue to give superior representation and excellent customer service in this region.
